The Weber Metro Cold Case Task Force is dedicated to solving unsolved cases that have
been left
unresolved for too long. These cases represent not just mysteries but real people and
families who
deserve justice and closure. Each cold case is a chance to bring peace to a grieving
family, restore
dignity to a victim, and make our community safer by ensuring that justice is served.
However, solving cold cases requires significant resources, including advanced
forensic
testing,
specialized investigative tools, and hours of dedicated work by highly skilled
professionals.
Traditional funding sources often do not cover the extensive costs associated with
reopening and
re-examining these cases.

Cold Cases
Cyle Vankomen and Kevin Nelson
In 2016, Kevin Nelson and Cyle VanKomen were fatally shot by masked intruders during a home invasion in South Ogden; despite surveillance footage showing the suspects before the attack, their identities remain unknown.
Ryan Bush
In 2013, Ryan Scott Bush was reported missing by his family and later found deceased out of state; despite investigations, no suspects have been identified in his homicide, which remains a cold case.
Marcos Vigil
In 2021, Marcos Vigil was found murdered in his Ogden home, and despite investigation, no suspects have been identified.
Scott Perkins
In 2019, Scott James Perkins was found unconscious from an assault in Ogden and later died from his injuries; despite investigation, his killer(s) remain unidentified.
Alice Valdez
In 2019, the decomposed body of Alice Ann Valdez was discovered in an Ogden storage unit, believed to have been moved there from another location; investigators seek information about her death and those connected to her.
Brian Housley
In 2017, Brian Housley was shot outside a residence in Ogden by an unknown assailant firing from a vehicle, which then fled the scene; the suspect remains unidentified.
Corbin Samuel McGuire
In 2015, a male victim was fatally shot on Van Buren Avenue in Ogden; despite witness reports of a suspect vehicle, the perpetrators remain unidentified.
Shallen Lestrick
In 2013, Shallen Lestrick was shot by two unknown males while outside on 29th Street in Ogden; the suspects fled the scene and remain unidentified.
Robert Santos Soto
In 2013, Robert Soto was fatally shot while walking on a sidewalk in an Ogden neighborhood; witnesses reported hearing gunshots and vehicles fleeing the scene, but no suspects have been identified.
Jeffrey Bancroft
In 2008, Jeffrey Allen Bancroft was found shot after crashing his car into a building on Wall Avenue during his lunch break from work; despite an investigation, no suspect has ever been identified.
Carson George Thonsen
In 2003, Carson Thornson was found fatally stabbed on 25th Street in Ogden; the identity of his attacker and the motive remain unknown.
Robert Chacon
In 2001, Robert was shot in the cheek while sitting in a vehicle on 29th Street by three unknown assailants who have never been identified.
Jerilynn Tapoof
In 2000, the body of Jerilyn Tapoof was found in the Ogden River near 20th and Wall Avenue; despite following multiple leads, investigators have yet to identify a suspect in her death.
Robert Crawford
In 1998, Robert Warnke Crawford was shot and paralyzed in a drive-by shooting while walking on Jefferson Avenue in Ogden; he later died from his injuries in 1999, but the shooter was never identified.
Antonio Arana aka Isac Nerio
In 1998, Isac Nerio was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head inside his Adams Avenue apartment in Ogden; despite investigation, his killer has not been identified.
Matthew Mendoza
In 1997, 17-year-old Matthew Mendoza was fatally shot during a confrontation with two males on Adams Avenue in Ogden; the suspects fled the scene and have never been identified.
Debbie Jones
In 1997, Debbie Jones was shot and killed while standing in her doorway during a street fight between partygoers on Jefferson Avenue in Ogden; the person who fired the fatal shot has never been identified.
Jason Smith
In 1996, Jason Smith was shot and killed while riding in a vehicle on Doxey Street in Ogden, after being followed by a red car; the shooter’s identity and motive remain unknown.
Frank Orme
In 1993, Frank Orme was found fatally stabbed in the back of his truck on Canyon Road in Ogden; the circumstances of his death and the identity of his killer remain a mystery.
Kevin Capps
In 1992, Kevin Capps was found dead inside a burned boat in Ogden; investigators determined accelerants had been used to start the fire, which caused his death, but the person responsible remains unknown.
Albert Spatz
In 1988, Albert William Spatz was attacked and robbed while walking in Ogden, suffering a head injury that led to his death weeks later; despite a suspect description, no one was ever arrested.
Lucy Montoya
In 1988, Lucy Margaret Montoya was found fatally stabbed outside the Marshall White Center in Ogden after reports of a fight; despite extensive interviews, her killer has never been identified.
Gabrielle Distefano and Joyce Tina Gallegos
In 1982, 14-year-old Gabriel Distefano was found murdered in Harrisville after going missing on her way to a party; decades later, a forensic link connected her death to another cold case, revealing both victims were killed with the same gun.
George Warren Gray
In 1951, butcher George Gray was fatally shot during an attempted robbery at Crompton's Ogden Market; despite a violent struggle in which the suspect was injured and fled, no one was ever charged in the homicide.
