In 2016, Kevin Nelson and Cyle VanKomen were fatally shot by masked intruders during a home invasion in South Ogden; despite surveillance footage showing the suspects before the attack, their identities remain unknown.

On December 9, 2016, at approximately 8:00 PM, Kevin Nelson was visiting the residence of his neighbor, Cyle VanKomen, at 3636 Ogden Ave, South Ogden, Utah. During the visit, two unidentified, masked assailants entered the home through the back door, while a third remained outside. Upon entry, one of the intruders discharged a firearm, fatally shooting both Cyle VanKomen and Kevin Nelson. Surveillance footage later revealed the three masked individuals stalking the victims in the area surrounding the residence prior to the attack. This footage has been made publicly available and is posted on YouTube in connection with the case.
The investigation is being conducted by the South Ogden Police Department in collaboration with the Weber County Cold Case Task Force. Working as a unified team, they continue to pursue all leads.
This case remains open, and the South Ogden Police Department is actively seeking information from the public.
