Weber County supports our active duty military and disabled veterans, and offers tax relief programs to assist them. In Weber County, tax relief programs are managed by either the Assessor’s Office, or the Clerk/Auditor’s Office.
Active Duty (Assessor’s Office)
If you are an active duty military member, you may be eligible to receive tax relief on your vehicle registration.
To qualify you must be:
- The titled owner of the vehicle, and either:
- Stationed in Utah and claiming residency in another state. A Current LES will need to be provided with the Utah Vehicle Registration, or,
- A Utah resident stationed out of state, with a vehicle having a current Utah Registration that is being used in support of your military assignment. A letter from your commanding officer stating this fact, a current LES and the appropriate State’s safety and emission paperwork will need to be provided.
To receive tax relief:
- If the vehicle has already been registered for the year, the required documents can be emailed, faxed, mailed, or hand-delivered to the Weber County Assessor’s Office. Please include your current phone number, email, and mailing address. Once received, your refund request will be submitted.

- If the vehicle is due to be registered for the year, take the required documents to the Department of Motor Vehicle at the time of registration. If applicable, the county age-based fee will not be charged. In this case, you do not need to submit any documents to the Assessor’s Office.

If you are on military orders that take you outside of the state of Utah for 200 or more days in a year, you may qualify for tax relief on your primary residence.
