ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FINANCE TOOLS
Public infrastructure districts in Utah provide a flexible and powerful means for financing public infrastructure projects, enabling cities and counties to facilitate development and improve public services without placing undue strain on existing public resources or taxpayers.
WEBER COUNTY & QNERGY RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECT
Closed landfills emit methane gas that is harmful to the environment. In September 2023, the Economic Development Dept. partnered with Qnergy, an Ogden-based company and global leader in methane abatement in closed landfills. The County launched a pilot program to abate about 5% of methane from a closed County landfill. Since then, the pilot program has been successful and now, nearly 100% of the methane is being harvested into renewable energy. Weber County is the first county in Utah to undertake this project, which has received national attention.
