Under the general supervision of a department head, performs supervisory work over County Building Service Workers in a variety of building construction, alteration, maintenance and repair work.
Example of Duties:
Assists in directing the scheduling of the overall maintenance and repair function of the department. Recommends hiring and termination and pay adjustments for assigned personnel; administers progressive disciplinary actions, as needed; assigns personnel and equipment to maintain scheduled operations; reschedules personnel and equipment to respond to emergency situations or changing priorities. Maintains time log, routine records and performs supervisory work as required. Inspects work sites for unusual problems or conformance to instructions and procedures; investigates and resolves complaints. Directs and participates in the more difficult aspects of building construction, alteration, maintenance and repair work; directs projects to be performed in accordance with construction blueprints and various rules and regulations. Performs related work as required.
Education and Experience:
Education: Completion of high school or equivalent.
Experience: Six years of diversified experience in building maintenance activities, one year of which must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and materials used in a variety of building maintenance functions; considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to building maintenance.
Skills: Skilled in the use of specialized and common tools and materials of several trades.
Abilities: Ability to supervise and organize the work of others; ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, diagrams, and blueprints; ability to make cost estimates of time and materials; ability to prepare and maintain routine records; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the general public.
Must possess or be able to possess a valid Utah Driver's license and have a good driving record. Must be willing to be on call; must have a telephone. Must be adaptable to changing work hours as shift hours may be varied. Working days may include weekends and holidays; and working hours may include early mornings and late nights. Service workers are required to be on holiday and weekend checks. Journeyman Electrical License.
